Our ancestors were truly amazing with their ingenuity and their creative ways to accomplish tasks. Even for something as simple as making clothes.
One such tool that gave people throughout history a chance to create intricate and unique patterns was tablet weaving. Originally weavers would tie threads to an object, like a hook, and the other end to their belt. They could then adjust the tension with moving their body.
Yarn was threaded through the holes, either from the left, or from the right giving a Z or S shape.
By using different coloured threads in different configurations and by turning the tablets (or cards if you are American) you can create almost unlimited possibilities.
Our tablets have been marked on all four sides with Roman numerals to make it easier to weavers to remember where they got up to.
Tablets are 60mm square and are made from 3mm MDF to reduce fibre catching roughness in the holes.
