Traditional Dance
"Dance is the best exercise"!
It's true, and has been verified by science!
Dance gets the body moving, makes you think, brings people together and makes you laugh! Not only that, but it connects you to a part of your cultural heritage and keeps it alive.
In our dance workshops we bring a range of dances that are both simple to pick up and exciting to dance. We also tailor the range and instructions to the group meaning that these workshops are suitable for all.
Not only do visitors get to learn dances, but the workshops are also a show for everyone else around the arena. Also each show contains about 4 dances giving the chance for lots of turns.
As seen in Call the Midwife!
Our very own Stephen choreographed the maypole scenes in Call the Midwife Season 12 Episode 2. You're welcome!

The Shows
With our Traditional Dance Event Days we are able to come as plain old 21st century us, or we can come in historical costume depending on your event.
Each show lasts for approximately 30 minutes, in which time budding dancers will get to dance to around 4 dances. What dances we include is partly down to the nature of your event, and also down to the ability of the group.
Some of the shows might inclue:

The origins of the maypole are steeped in mystery. What we do know is that it enjoyed a resurgance in the early 20th century and dances are still being created; many countries around the world have their own version of the maypole; it is one of of the only dance forms when the dancers stop there is still something impressive to see; and it is jolly good fun! Can you master the quintessential maypole dance, the plait?

Barn dances and celidhs, they all enjoy country dances. Some of the dances are quite recent, whereas some popular dances go back to the 17th century and beyond. Can you strip the willow?

That's Stephen, on the set of Call the Midwife in between shots. That was a very hot day! We didn't know that we offered a consultancy service till we got booked for this gig, so here we are! Stephen has worked on lots of film and television projects (mainly stunt combat) so this was right up his street!

Do we get games too?
For our Traditional Dance Event Days our heritage games are definitely an option if appropriate/relevant for your event.
For many visitors it is the games that we provide that are the highlight. Our games are all Victorian games that transport players back in time. We fill our Games Arena with many different games, that are relevant to the period, that visitors can play at their leisure and return as much as they want.
Our Games Arena gives visitors something to enjoy from the moment the gates open to the end of the day. Some games are simple, others have more intricate rules, and this spread means that there is something for all.
