Hands-On Experiences
Get involved with the past
Some of the best ways to discover history are to try something for yourself.
Our Hands-On Experiences invite visitors to take part in historical activities, explore traditional skills, make something of their own or join in with an activity inspired by the past. They offer an engaging addition to festivals, heritage events, museum programmes and family days.
From creative workshops to traditional dance, our activities can be adapted to suit the experience, the audience and the wider event programme.
Choose an activity...
Add a touch of historical fantasy with a themed activity that invites participants to get involved and try their hand at a series of magical challenges.
Introduce visitors to the world of historical writing and manuscript production through an activity inspired by the work of scribes.
Discover the story of the Bayeux Tapestry through a collaborative textile activity inspired by this remarkable piece of medieval history.
Different ways to take part
Not every activity needs to work in the same way. Depending on the experience, we can discuss:
-
Scheduled workshops, giving participants a dedicated session to learn and take part.
-
Drop-in activities, allowing visitors to join in during an agreed period.
-
Participative activities, such as traditional dance, where visitors can learn and join in together.
The best format depends on your audience, available space, visitor numbers and the role the activity needs to play in your programme. Some experiences work best with booked sessions and limited numbers, while others are better suited to an ongoing activity.
Part of your wider event
Hands-On Experiences can work as individual attractions or alongside one of our Signature Experiences. They can also help create a broader programme, offering visitors different ways to engage with a historical theme.
We can discuss the most suitable format for your event, including session arrangements, timings, materials and venue requirements.
Availability and venue requirements
Many of our hands-on activities can be arranged throughout the year where suitable indoor space is available. Requirements vary by activity, so please get in touch to discuss your venue and plans.
